Health at a Glance: Europe 2012
Health spending fell across the European Union in 2010, as cash-strapped governments curbed outlays to help cut budgetary deficits, according to Health at a Glance: Europe 2012, a new joint report by the OECD and the European Commission.
This second edition of Health at a Glance: Asia/Pacific presents a set of key indicators of health status, the determinants of health, health care resources and utilisation, health care expenditure and financing, and health care quality in 27 Asia/Pacific countries and economies. This publication is a joint report by the OECD and the WHO Regional Offices for the Western Pacific and South-East Asia.
Informing policy makers about future health spending: Workshop on improving health expenditure forecasting methods, 30th November 2012, Paris
Addressing long-term growth in public and private health expenditures has risen to the top of the policy agenda in OECD countries. Policy makers require useful and credible tools to estimate future expenditures and to test the potential impact of policy options.
Israel has universal coverage, world-class primary care services and has maintained tight control of health costs – limiting health spending to about 8% of GDP, the eighth lowest across OECD countries. But Israel now needs to focus efforts on bringing its hospitals up to the same high international standards.

OECD project on Education and Social Progress (including health)
Education plays an important role in enabling individuals to follow healthy lifestyles and habits. The Education and Social Progress (ESP) project seeks to explore causal relationships between learning contexts, skills and health outcomes. Preliminary results will be presented in Spring 2013.
Men faring worse than women in hospitalisations for diabetes
The 14 November marked the World Diabetes Day. New OECD data show that men are more likely to be admitted to hospital as a result of poor management of diabetes than women, even when there are no significant differences in the number of men and women living with diabetes. Read more
