On 11 December the UK will host the first G8 Dementia Summit dedicated to tackling dementia globally. OECD Deputy Secretary General Yves Leterme will be taking part in the Joint Opening Plenary. The OECD is asked to ensure that the follow-up to the summit yields real results.

Global Health Workforce Alliance Forum on Human Resources for Health Recife, Brazil,10-13 November 2013
The Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health brought together over 1000 policy makers, experts, health advocates and frontline health workers. This year, the theme was Human Resources for Health: foundation for Universal Health Coverage and the post-2015 development agenda. OECD health economist Michael Schoenstein spoke in the session about the impact of the crisis on health employment and policy priorities in OECD countries and the long-term challenges of skills mismatch among health workers.
How Evidence is used in Policy Making: An OECD Perspective Health Workforce Australia 2013 Conference, Adelaide, Australia 18-19 November 2013
At the 2013 Health Workforce Australia's 2013 conference, Skilled and Flexible – The health workforce for Australia's future, Mark Pearson, Deputy Director of the OECD Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, gave a talk covering health workforce policy, the development of planning capacity and continuous monitoring of the health labour market. The presentation focused on the impact on service delivery reforms on workforce needs and how the global financial crisis has changed concerns about the health workforce.

Forum Économie Santé – Les Échos Paris, France, 19-20 October 2013
The 19th edition of the Economy Health Forum examined various health system reforms and identifying concrete solutions to the major challenges of the economy and the health organisation in France. OECD senior health policy analyst Valerie Paris gave a presentation on how developed countries adapt their health systems when faced an economy in crisis.

Health at a Glance 2013 (21st November 2013)
This new edition of Health at a Glance provides the latest comparable data on different aspects of the performance of health systems in OECD countries. Where possible, it also reports data for BRIICS countries. Compared with the previous edition, this 2013 edition contains new indicators on health inequalities, risk factors to health among children, the pharmaceutical market, quality of care and access to care. Each indicator in the book is presented in a user-friendly format, consisting of charts illustrating variations across countries and over time, brief descriptive analyses highlighting the major findings conveyed by the data, and a methodological box on the definition of the indicator and any limitations in data comparability.
Cancer Care: Assuring Quality to Improve Survival (30th October 2013)
More than five million new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year in OECD countries. Mortality rates are declining, but not as fast as for other big killers such as heart disease, and cancer survival estimates show almost a four-fold difference across countries.
Cancer Care: Assuring quality to improve survival surveys the policy trends in cancer care over recent years and sets out what governments should do to reduce the burden of cancer in their countries. As well as an adequate level of resourcing, a comprehensive national cancer control plan appears critical, emphasising initiatives such as early detection and fast-track treatment pathways. Countries also need better data, particularly for patients' experiences of care, in order to provide high quality, continuously improving cancer care.
